It turned out to be a JomSocial bug! The developers have told me that they are working on it and will have it fixed shortly...

Akeeba subscriptions is the most probable cause since it can manage user groups associated with subscriptions. For instance, if you have tested memberships with the admin account, Akeeba subscriptions is going to assign or unassign the user to groups according to the tested memberships and expirations. Moreover, it's always better to test with simple ...

When you are missing your usergroups, are these groups still in the database? Look in the right tables of your Joomla Database! Iam sure that the groups are already there!

You can always override the jomsocial view where you want the article to display, and add a module position there, and then display a module there that shows your artile. Output overrides for jomsocial are slightly different than for other components, but it's explained here, the most important part quoted below: Before you can start customizing, you ...

If you install Advanced Module Manager (free extension), you'll get a lot more control over your modules and where they will be displayed/hidden. The extension has many filters and conditions, and I'm sure you'll be able to find a setting that hides the module, although I can't tell you exactly what setting will work in your specific case. Hope that helps a ...

JomSocial creates a menu as part of the installation. Most requirements are solved based on this menu. Best practice: do not modify this menu and publish menu aliases to this menu instead

Found a solution that works for 3.x and up: in PHP file that gets called through $.ajax: define('_JEXEC', 1); define('JPATH_BASE', '../../../'); defined('DS') or define('DS', DIRECTORY_SEPARATOR); require_once ( JPATH_BASE . 'includes' . DS . 'defines.php' ); require_once ( JPATH_BASE . 'includes' . DS . 'framework.php' ); // connect to Joomla $mainframe = ...

Turns out it was a setting in the Joomla firewall and it was working as expected. Apparently, this particular "trusted" user accidentally put some "<" and ">" characters in his description which triggered a code injection protocol. The Joomla admin was able to clear this user's IP from the blocked list and now they can add events again. Hopefully, this ...

Update Joomla to the latest version if it's not already on the latest version. Update third party extensions to the latest versions (especially JomSocial as older versions can cause this exact error).

WP IS easier but less powerfull than Joomla. That's not a secret. I have never used JomSocial templates, but I know that other template providers always ship QuickStart package with their templates, which looks and functions as template demo site. Did you get a quickstart with your template purchase? If you did, just install it whole, instead of ...

After some research I found this PDF: https://www.joomlapolis.com/media/kunena/attachments/557850/developer_documentation_2.0.x_english.pdf I found that using AlphaUserPointsHelper was the way to go. // get AlphaUserPointsHelper $api_AUP = JPATH_BASE . DS . 'components' . DS . 'com_alphauserpoints' . DS .'helper.php'; if (file_exists($api_AUP)) { ...

Thanks to @oooooo's recomendation I used this code to build a method for adding points. Calling the UserPoints API in Your Code If you want to give points to a user, you will need to call the API by inserting the codes where you want them. include_once JPATH_ROOT.'/components/com_community/libraries/core.php'; include_once JPATH_ROOT.'/...

I forgot to post my solution. Sorry everyone. I found this information in multiple posts on StackOverflow and also after digging into the Joomla! documentation. // Requirments needed to build this function. defined('_JEXEC') or die('Restricted access'); require_once ( JPATH_BASE . DS . 'includes' . DS . 'defines.php' ); require_once ( JPATH_BASE . DS . '...

The most probable issue is a conflict between your template and JomSocial template. You can debug it with a browser inspection tool, like Firefox's Firebug or Chrome Dev Tools (F12). Both tools allows to explore each Html element and all the applied styles, even allowing to enable/disable each declaration. Once you find the CSS style causing the conflict, ...

JomSocial has its own templating system. Firstly, you have to create your own template, and duplicate the required files from the default template to customize the registration. In this link, there is a nice detail of the required steps to customize a template and inspect the layout: http://documentation.jomsocial.com/wiki/Customizing_Template Concerning ...
